RAVENNA WALKING TOUR

"... This experience of Ravenna is among the strangest events of my life": thus Carl Gustav Jung described his visit to this magical city.
Discover in a private walking tour the beauty of Ravenna's history and art.
Ravenna secretly preserves the traces of its ancient past, when for two hundred years it was three times the capital. On our tour we will visit some of the most beautiful monuments of early Christian history recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site . We will begin with the history of the fall of the Western Roman Empire, then we will discover what the Kingdom of Italy was like in the hands of the barbarian king Theodoric and finally the wealth and pomp of the Byzantine period. We will admire images that, like a mosaic photograph, still seem to speak today.

The first monument we will visit, where you can also stop to make or ask for tickets (12.50 full / 11.50 reduced for entrance with guide), will be the Church of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo , a UNESCO heritage site, which contains beautiful mosaics of the Goths and Byzantine period.
We will then go on to see Dante Alighieri's tomb and discover his relationship with the city in the so-called "zone of silence".
We will continue with another important Unesco monument which is the Neonian Baptistery , dated first half of the fifth century and passing through the main square, Piazza del Popolo, with a further walk of about 10 minutes we will reach the final point of our tour: the two monuments certainly most famous of the city or the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Basilica of San Vitale .
The tour, lasting about 3 hours, will end at the Basilica of San Vitale.

Notes: the Ravenna private tour listed above, refers to a half day, but I can also extend the visit to a full day tour , including other extremely interesting monuments full of art and history. In the case of extension we can also visit the Baptistery of the Arians, the Mausoleum of Theodoric, the Archiepiscopal museum which preserves the Chapel of Sant'Andrea and finally the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe.
